Project „PubBias“ – Questions on assessing the prevalence and extent of publication bias (English Version) - Cognitive Pretest
Abstract:
The DFG-funded “PubBias” project examines the prevalence and extent of publication bias in the social, economic, and behavioral sciences in Germany using GESIS Panel and SOEP-IS study submissions.
The subject of this pretest are questions on the publication process of scientific papers.
The questions were tested via cognitive interviews.

Selection of Target Population/Quotas:
Quota sampling. The target group for the pretest consisted of individuals with experience in publishing or conducting research projects in the fields of psychology, sociology/social sciences, political science, and economics. The majority of the participants should have earned a Ph.D. or completed their habilitation; no more than two participants were to still be pursuing their Ph.D.

Procedure:
The cognitive interviews were conducted in person or via video call and recorded as audio files. The participants first answered the questions in the online questionnaire—which were programmed in English—independently on a computer while sharing their screen with the interviewers. The cognitive interview then took place in German, with cognitive probing questions asked immediately after each individual question (concurrent probing).
